Pear Education Trainers (PET) CDS Sensitization on HIV/AIDS



On the 21st of May, 2015, the CDS embarked on a quintessential sensitization exercise at Presbyterian Secondary Grammar School Nko, of yakurr LGA, Cross River state.

The topic of the sensitization was on HIV/AIDS Transmission. Speaking at the event is the CDS president (Kopa Oladimeji Samuel B., who in his introduction highlighted some of the basic reasons of the sensitization, to take a proactive measure such as total abstinence, avoiding the use of sharp object that may have been used by infected persons, knowing your status, stop stigmatization and discrimination. Adding that; In Cross River State, It was recorded that Yakurr L.G.A has the highest population of people living with the disease.

The students were also able answer some questions asked, such as the meaning of HIV/AIDS and other subjective questions like “HIV/AIDS can be cured. True or False?” , “can mosquito transmit the disease?”


Highlighted also during the exercise is; How can one contact HIV/AIDS, some of the ways highlighted are; through sexual intercourse, through infected blood & blood products, mother to child transmission etc. In addition to the contact means, they also stated, some of the proactive measures, which are; total abstinence, be faithful to a single partner, consistent use of condom. Concluding that session of the sensitization was a song sang by all; titled: “total abstinence is the solution”.

Conclusively, the President of the group, told the students that nobody is responsible for your life, that they are responsible for their own lives. HIV/AIDS is real, total abstinence is the solution to it. Go for regular check-up for your HIV status.
